Why Buy Temporary Car Insurance
Temporary car insurance is one of those things that most people never think about needing. If you buy a car, you buy a long term insurance policy. If you rent a car, you can purchase insurance from the rental company. Why would you need temporary car insurance? There are two possible scenarios. The first is that you are borrowing a car from someone, and the other that you simply need some more time to find a long-term insurance policy you want.
It is not unusual to loan out a car to a friend or family member for short term use. Even though the car itself may be covered, if the driver is not on that particular insurance policy then you are still at risk. A temporary car insurance policy (they can run up to 28 days in length) will provide protection against accident or injury during that period of time. There is no reason to take risks or to allow a damaged car to come between friends. Temporary insurance is cheap because you don’t pose much risk to the insurance company and will provide you with all the same benefits as long term insurance.
If you’re having trouble choosing between insurance policies for your car, or if your old policy is about to lapse but you haven’t had time to shop for a new one, temporary insurance or even 1 day car insurance can be the way to cover that gap. You can buy yourself an extra week or month to read and compare policies while still staying legal on the roads. Rather than rush and purchase insurance you’re not comfortable with or paying more money than you need to, you can quickly get temporary cover over the internet for only a few dollars. Because it’s so short term you don’t have to fret over the specifics as you do with a long term policy.
Perhaps you will never find yourself in a position where you need temporary car insurance, but if you do you should remember that it exists. It is always better to be safe than sorry, especially when the solution is so inexpensive.
